Volunteer Opportunities

W.A.T.E.R. is a volunteer organization. The organization is run by an all-volunteer board of directors and volunteers. Thus we have many volunteer opportunities available. For all our volunteers, we require a commitment to the environmental and environmental justice principles in our vision, mission, and values statements (see our Strategic Plan).

Social media and internet outreach: 

We utilize a website, email newsletter, Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube to reach out to our community and beyond.

Volunteer skills needed:

  • Interest in and ability to manage social media accounts on a regular basis and update website

  • Familiarity with Mail Chimp and ability to edit and compile e-newsletter materials

  • Familiarity with the Squarespace website system

  • Willingness to work with the Board of Directors in identifying appropriate materials to post

Public Forum Series: 

W.A.T.E.R. facilitates community forums to educate and engage the public in various topics
(see the
Community Events tab for examples).  

Volunteer skills needed

  • Organizational and communication skills to coordinate forum location, on-site technology, topics, recruit speakers, and advertising

  • Willingness to coordinate messaging with the Board of Directors

Fundraising:

We finance our work with individual donations and by writing grants to like-minded funders.

Volunteer skills needed

  • Ability to research, identify, and communicate with appropriate funders

  • Grant writing skills

Financial recordkeeping:

We utilize QuickBooks to record our financial transactions.

Volunteer skills needed

  • Fluency with of QuickBooks

  • Ability to communicate with our tax accountant

Special Project Managers:

We work by having a board member or volunteer take the lead on a project of their interest (consistent with our vision, mission, and values statements). The project may be one proposed by the board of directors or by the volunteer with board approval.

Volunteer skills needed:

  • Ability to plan and organize activities related to the issue

  • Ability to work with volunteers

 W.A.T.E.R. is recruiting new board members by inviting interested community members to apply to join our core leadership team on a trial basis.
